But one with whom the good of genuine charity exists and who consequently feels an affection for truth is not content with that but wishes to clarify from the Word what the truth is and see it before firmly assenting to it. Also it is good that enables him to see it, for the discernment of truth originates in good, the Lord being within the good and imparting such discernment. 5355:2 Principle: good/God is the origin Task: actively pursue genuine charity through actions of charity or shunning evil whatever presents. Observe opposites. When acts of charity emerged, each time they… Read more »

Logopraxis 5351 (3) For faith without charity is like a body without a soul. But a body without a soul is removed from sight and put away because it stinks, as everyone knows; in the next life faith without charity is like this. All who possessed faith so-called which was devoid of charity are in hell: but all who had charity are in heaven. For everyone’s life remains with him, whereas doctrine does so only insofar as it draws on that life. 5353…… During these experiences self-love and love of the world from which all evils spring are removed, and… Read more »

Principles mentioned in the reading: Rebirth is effected solely by means of good and truth. The desires in a person’s will are the primary constituents of his life, while the ideas in his understanding are secondary to them; and he acts in accordance with the desires of his will. For everyone’s life remains with him, whereas doctrine does so only insofar as it draws on that life. Once those evils have been removed a new area of will arises. All evils springs from self-love and love of the world Temptations take away self-love and love of the world, and so… Read more »

ACV7S25-Judy #5351-2…”good is actually the firstborn in the church, or in the man who becomes a church; whereas truth is not the firstborn, and yet it appears as if it were (n. 352, 367, 2435, 3325, 3494, 4925, 4926, 4928, 4930), as may also be seen from the fact that in man the will precedes; for man’s willing is the first of his life, and his understanding comes after, and applies itself in accordance with his willing….. Yet as man’s will does not appear to the sense except through the understanding (for the understanding is the will in form, or the will formed to the sense), it is… Read more »

Observations: When working with the task-even though impossible, as the Text revealed, it still allowed the Text to reveal it’s secrets, reinforcing that willingness to work is what allows the Lord (Text) to do His work. Questions were also being raised in my mind as I worked. Some had answers revealed through the Text others to continue to be pondered on. One was: what are the degrees of the natural and how am I to think of it? I was also aware of process through the Text, the need to shun evils as sins against the Lord and the need… Read more »

ACV7S25-Len
#5351-3…”In the church by “faith” is meant all the truth of doctrine, and by “charity” all the good of life……… All those who have been in faith so called without charity are in hell, while all who have been in charity are in heaven; for everyone’s life remains, but not his doctrine except insofar as it is derived from his life.”
Task: To accept and consciously acknowledge that I am already in hell or heaven and that faith is of no effect unless it springs from the good of my life.

Observations: This reading helped me realise that I don’t know much about things at all. For instance, the Text seems to be saying that faith or doctrine or truth come after charity; that is connected to the good of life; whereas I thought I had to learn from the Word the truth and work with doctrine to give me direction on what it is that I need to be doing. Apparently not so. I think it is saying here in this particular doctrine that what I do!!! is much more important and is actually first and it is this that… Read more »

This passage ws confusing as it used man both meaning human (Homo) and man meaning masculine (viv). So I did my best to decipher the Latin re which one it was referring to by looking at the Latin translation against it. CL 353. To this I will add two Relations. First: I was once in the midst of angels, and heard their discourse. The discourse was on the subject of intelligence and wisdom: ‘That a man(homo) does not perceive but that both are in himself, and thus that whatever he thinks from the understanding or intends from the will is… Read more »

The process is cyclic. •An initial honeymoon stage of the excitement. A willingness to have the  heart and head in union.   • • Ugly thoughts, guilt then depression, murkiness and a mixture of feelings. • •Things start to become a little clearer in that it gets a little easier to see what thoughts and feelings are harmful and destructive. The Text keeps reminding me that what I am seeing is what must be seen. Hope is offered as trust in the Text to support me builds. •vacillation in believing it is me and then not owning. The insanity of what isn’t of a Divine nature with me becomes more and more apparent. increasing delight and a sense of relief in being able to separate. • • acceptance… Read more »

Arcana Coelestia # 5354. End of [2]: “Inasmuch as this new understanding and new will come into existence through influx from the LORD, the man who has been regenerated acknowledges and believes that the good and truth with which he is affected are not from himself but from the LORD and also that whatever is from himself, or of his own, is nothing but evil.” Middle of [3]:. “The removal of such evil, and the inrooting of good in its place, cannot be effected short of the whole course of life, and through Divine means numberless and unspeakable.” A.C. #5355:… Read more »

Submission:
Pondering was valuable (and unusual) for me. I should ponder daily.
Each rereading I saw something new.
My sweet man got that we are nothing in a way that I do not (and/or do not retain).
How long is a lifetime?
My appetite for truth needs stimulating.
I am so far from the state described in #5355~~~ seeing that helps me move toward humility.

Chosen text: 5354 [2] But no one can be in this good from himself, because it is the celestial itself which flows in from the Lord. This celestial flows in continually, but evils and falsities stand in the way of its being received; and therefore in order that it may be received it is necessary for man to remove evils, and as far as he is able falsities also, and thus dispose himself to receive the influx. When after evils have been removed the man receives the influx, he at the same time receives a new will and a new… Read more »

5356………..Temptations remove the loves of self and of the world, thus evils; on the removal of which the affection of good and truth flows in from the Lord (see just above, n. 5354). Temptations also give quality to the perception of good and truth, by means of the opposite things which evil spirits then infuse; and it is by perceiving opposites that we get relatives, from which comes all quality; for no one knows what is good without also knowing what is not good, nor what is true without knowing what is not true. Temptations also confirm goods and truths,… Read more »

Progress: The Lord is helping me discern the hellish influence and patterns of thinking associated with some habitual low energy states and moods.
Reforming work is very noticeable in the sifting and clearing of the entangled influences bound up in my thinking, feeling and willing.
Nourishment, Wisdom, Hope and Light coming through the Word and the Writings. Many different parts including Genesis, Psalms, Revelation. Also White Horse, True Christian Religion, The Lord and various AC passages.
Logopraxis posts and comments are also helpful and encouraging.

5353. In the original language “Manasseh” means “forgetfulness,” thus in the internal sense the removal of evils, both actual and hereditary; for when these are removed, a new will arises, for the new will comes into existence through the influx of good from the Lord. The influx of good from the Lord with man is continuous; but there are evils both actual and hereditary that hinder and obstruct the reception of it; and therefore when these are removed, a new will comes into existence.   [2] But no one can be in this good from himself, because it is the… Read more »

I have been plagued by old evils resurfacing and reminding me just what a selfish life I led when I was younger. I have been attacked by doubts in my ability as a mother. I thank the Lord that He was in charge and my children seemed to survive and grow up into decent human beings!

The good thing, after these attacks I have felt some peace and glad that the forgetfulness of Manasseh means that I don’t have to be plagued by these memories all the time!

This reading was so full of potential tasks that I had to wait and let one rise to the surface. I started with the general idea – what does it mean to be born again? That then led to what is stated in no. 5356 that says that temptations remove the evils of the love of self and the world such that they give meaning to “opposites.” “No one knows what good is without also knowing what is not good, nor what is true without knowing what is not true. Temptations confirm goods and truths, for the man then fights… Read more »

Task
Allow the evils or falsities I see in myself or in life circumstances awaken me to their opposites…. reach for those opposites. Remember always, there is a pivot point.

Observation:
Because of this task I have been given to see and understand some very hidden darkness in myself, very damaging; and because of trying to turn the evil around, to reach for the opposite, or at least reach for the relative place between the darkness and light, the hidden evil was partly unfolded, shown, and acknowledged – and adoration entered ….was given. It has helped me appreciate/accept the presence of oppositional forces in leading to Light.

This cycle I noticed an interesting aspect to what I “thought” applying truths to life was supposed to look like. I took great delight in reading Copious numbers on shunning evils as sins being the key to breaking from the old will so that the Lord can “Gift” (4063 [3]) my natural sensuous man with a new will. Like a child, I found myself printing them out, carrying them around like a teddy bear, and reading & fondling them. Then as I moved into other activities I became surprised and disappointed at how soon the hells showed up to sabotage… Read more »

AC 5054:[11] What the will of the church is that is signified by “Manasseh,” may be known from its understanding, which is “Ephraim.” It is with the will of the church as with its understanding, namely, that it is varied with each person. “Manasseh” signifies this will in Isaiah: In the wrath of Jehovah Zebaoth the land is darkened, and the people is become like food for the fire; no man shall spare his brother; they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm: Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: they together are against Judah (Isa. 9:19-21); where “every… Read more »
