Laurel Powell offered the following at a Life Group meeting and I asked if I could post it, to which she said, “Yes.” [Atad means “thorn”] ABEL MIZRAIM We come from a land of knowing all about the spirit, better than anyone else knows it. We are carrying with us the lifeless shape of our ideal of the life we long to live, of the person we think we want to be. All the knowledge we have has enabled us to preserve this ideal in its perfect form. We mean to carry it into the afterlife, where, we believe, it… Read more »

Reading AC 6539  ‘And wailed there with great and extremely loud wailing means grief. This is clear from the meaning of ‘wailing’ as grief. The grief that is meant here is a grief that goes with the introduction referred to just above in 6537; for before the cognitions of good and truth which come at the initial stage can be implanted in good and so become part of the Church’s good, grief exists; for a different state must be brought about in the natural, and the known facts must be rearranged into a different order there. Thus what a person… Read more »

Just come across this. The sea and the dike imagery. AC 1661. [2] No one can ever fight against evils and falsities until he has learned to know what evil and falsity are, and therefore not until he has been instructed. A man does not know what evil is, still less what falsity is, until he has the full use of his understanding and judgment, which is the reason why a man does not come into temptations until he has arrived at adult age; thus every man in his age of manhood, but the Lord in His childhood. ACV8S32-Judy # 6524-2…”for wisdom is of life, thus of good, but intelligence is of knowledges, thus of truth….” Principle: The Lord is all-goodness and truth, wisdom and intelligence; Life itself. Task: To consider what my inner attitude to the above truth is. Experience: To be placed in front of the Text is an invitation to allow what needs to be seen to be revealed. This invites its own ‘special’ angst. Everything, or it seems like everything, is challenged and torn down in regard to “self” and “self image” built up over the years (lifetime) and there is a huge void-appearance… Read more »

Logopraxis 6521 to 6543 6521. Verses 7-9. And Joseph went up to bury his father; and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh; the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt, and all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father’s house: only their babes, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen. And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen; and the army was exceeding great. “And Joseph went up to bury his father,” signifies the internal toward the setting up again… Read more »

6534 [2] In David,

In your majesty climb into [your chariot], and ride on the word of truth and meekness and righteousness, and your right arm will teach you marvellous things. Ps. 45:4.
This refers to the Lord. ‘Riding on the word of truth’ stands for having a genuine understanding of truth.

Task: Appreciate Psalm 45 by listening to John Michael Talbot’s sung version from the CD Chant from the Hermitage and Julian Duckworth’s commentary on the New Christian Bible Study website.
Secondly, appreciate what stands behind a genuine understanding of truth.

AC 6532 [3] In Zechariah: In that day I will smite every horse with amazement, and his rider with madness, and I will open Mine eye upon the house of Judah; but will smite every horse of the peoples with blindness (Zech. 12:4); where “horse” denotes the intellectual; and “rider,” the intellect. Who does not see that “horse” here does not mean horse, nor “rider” rider; but that something is signified which can be smitten with amazement and madness, also with blindness? That this pertains to the understanding is obvious. HH552[2] For in the spiritual world there is a universal… Read more »

Submission: Well I started off really focusing on my breathing and taking note of it but what I soon discovered ( and this was affirmed more and more as the cycle went on), was that it was my heart that communicated to me most strongly. And not always or necessarily in the area of my chest- it was more of a life force beating – like the Lord’s life in me responding to the state at the time. And what I have come to accept over the years came into an even greater awareness- that it is most notable when the sense… Read more »

AC 6541. And the inhabitant of the land, the Canaanite, saw the grievous mourning in the threshing-floor of Atad. That this signifies a perception of grief by the good of the church, is evident from the signification of “seeing,” as being a perception and from the signification of “inhabitant,” as being good …of “land,” here the land of Canaan,… and from the signification of the “threshing-floor Atad,” as being the first state, namely that of initiation… Principle: It is only good that can grieve unselfishly for what is outside itself. Task: It is comforting to realize that some of the… Read more »

6522: and Joseph went up to bury his father. That this is the internal toward the setting up again of the church, is evident from the representation of Joseph as being the internal; and from the signification of ‘being buried’ as being resuscitation, thus setting up again.”

Task:
Be acutely aware of the constant opportunity to fall into the darkness that precedes the Lords resuscitation; and the constant longing that He may bring me back to Life, for which I must make preparation. What are these ways, exactly – are they clear to me; or are they vague generalities?

Observation: True to form, the task has given opportunity to experience darkness this session, which has really helped clarify the processes of preparation so wonderfully outlined in AC 6522. I see that the ‘generality’ is not vague, but is a powerful and constant underlying base, which is greatly strengthened by specifics and particulars as my understanding grows. The ‘generality’ is the Word, which has lifted me out of dark states so many times, even when I don’t understand It’s internals but simply open It and read a single verse. Taking the Word as the underlying power, an overall sense of the… Read more »

6529. Only their babes. That this signifies innocence, is evident from the signification of “babes,” as being innocence. 6530. And their flocks. That this signifies charity, is evident from the signification of “flocks,” as being the interior good of charity  6531. And their herds. That this signifies the practices of charity, is evident from the signification of “herds,” as being the exterior goods of charity; thus the practices thereof, for these are the exterior goods of charity. 6532. I am not sure I actually drew the correct idea from the babes, flocks and herds being the remains in us, but I have worked with it anyway so I suspect it doesn’t matter.  I constantly get little reminders to be more loving and gentle. Often from social media! Spending time getting to know other people and what matters to them is a way of making deeper connections. When I find myself wrapped up in my own wants and needs I have noticed that whenever I make a conscious effort to think about others or what they are struggling with I… Read more »

AC 6537: That by the “threshing-floor Atad” is signified a state, namely as to the good and truth of the church, is because it was at the passage of the Jordan, and by this passage is signified initiation into the knowledges of good and truth (of which presently). For the Jordan was the first boundary in respect to the land of Canaan; and as by the “land of Canaan” is signified the church, therefore by the “Jordan” is signified those things which are the first of the church, or by means of which entrance to the church is opened. After sitting with the text for some time I came to realize that AC 6537 & 6539 are a description of the Process. I have to be brought to the very Threshold of my existence so that what is of the infernal proprium can be “Threshed” and Winnowed” which is the grievous giving up (confessing) of what I believe to be good and true, in deference to what the Word says. There needs to be an “emptying”, or a “giving up” so that a space can be created for the Lord to reside. Threshing is a violent but necessary separation… Read more »
