5291. And take the fifth of the land of Egypt. That this signifies that are to be preserved and afterward stored up, is evident from the signification of “taking a fifth,” as here involving the same as tithing or taking a tenth: “to tithe,” in the Word, signifies to make remains, and to make remains is to gather truths and goods, and then to store them up. (That remains are goods and truths stored up by the Lord in the inner man may be seen above, n. 468, 530, 560, 561, 661, 1050, 1906, 2284, 5135; and that by “tithes” in the Word are signified remains, see n. 576, 1738, 2280; and likewise by “ten,” n. 1906, 2284; and hence also by “five,” which number is the half of ten.) Half and double in the Word involve the like as the numbers to which they are applied-as “twenty” the like as “ten,” “four” the like as “two,” “six” as “three,” “twenty-four” as “twelve,” and so on; so also numbers still further multiplied involve the like, as a “hundred” and also a “thousand” the like as “ten,” “seventy-two” and also a “hundred and forty-four” the like as “twelve.” What therefore compound numbers involve can be known from the simple numbers from which and with which they are multiplied; also what the more simple numbers involve can be known from the whole numbers, as what “five” is can be known from “ten,” and what “two and a half” is from “five,” and so on. In general it is to be known that numbers multiplied involve the like as the simple numbers, but what is more full; and that numbers divided involve the same, but what is not so full.

5291 Numbers and their relationships increasing and decreasing the correspondences and adding and multiplying to the meanings is absolutely amazing Remains …. 5 , 10, 1/5, 5/10, 5/2, etc The actual numbers in the 5 loaves and 2 fishes , and sitting down by 100’s and by 50’s …..actually happened in every detail by Divine Providence-to represent as a theatre the Divine things within. There is a mystery in each number. So miraculous and astonishing I am full of wonder and amazement and love that there is so much beyond our understanding and ken that maybe one day will begin… Read more »

ACV7S21-Len #5293….” That which is conducive to use is to know what is good and true; that which is of use is to will and do what is good and true…..” Task: To reflect on the difference between what is conducive to use and what is of use. Observations:Working with the text at a personal level has enabled me to see things so differently to in the past. I am quite sure that I would never have made a point to reflect on this single sentence if I hadn’t been doing work with the Text in such a way as I… Read more »

AC 5291, 12, paraphrased, re. “the fifth part” of corn to be stored for the famine = forms of good and truth stored away by the Lord for times of vastation and temptation, preserving the possibility of regeneration.  In this week of Thanksgiving (in the US), remember to thank the Lord for having done this – through my loving parents, teachers, and priests –to preserve for me the possibility of regeneration. That these forms of good and truth are guarded so as to remain despite being ignored and violated. That these remnants (stored-away truths and forms of good) are where a person’s actual… Read more »

My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to accomplish His work. John 4: 34. 5297 [2] The recommendation here therefore that they should store up food in cities and should guard it means that truths joined to good were to be stored away in the interior parts of the natural mind. When these truths and forms of good have been stored away there they are called remnants. These remnants are where a person’s actual spiritual life resides, and they are what a person is nourished by spiritually whenever need and desire, that is, whenever… Read more »

In my reflections I came across a wonderful example of one’s ‘remnant’ being aroused and the flow on effects of being spiritually nourished. Barbara Blackman. After a cancer operation, the loss of her marriage and a move across country, she knew feelings of abandonment and was in need of a fundamental experience of being alive. This is what happened:   The little inner voice said, ‘Lie upon the landscape of your country’. Probably this had come up from the depths, from something very early in my life. My father died when I was three. He was a surveyor and, when… Read more »

5291 (5) The one who kept his mina stored away in a hankerchief describes those who acquire the truths of faith but do not join them to the good deeds of charity, so that these truths do not gain interest or become fruitful at all. 5291 (3) anyone who does not know that the word has an internal sense which is not visible in the letter will be utterly astonished by the idea that the spiritual realities too are meant by the numbers used in the Word. 5293 …For when this is ended his soul or spirit is living, and… Read more »

5293 In the internal sense “food” properly signifies the things that nourish the soul of man, that is, that nourish him after death, for he then lives as a soul or spirit, and no longer needs material food, but spiritual food, which consists in everything that is of use, and everything that is conducive to use. That which is conducive to use is to know what is good and true; that which is of use is to will and do what is good and true. These are the things that nourish the angels, and are therefore called spiritual and heavenly… Read more »

5297. For food in the cities. That this signifies such things in the interiors of the natural mind, is evident from the signification of “food,” as being all things that are of use, thus truths and goods (of which just above, n. 5293); and from the signification of “cities,” as being the interiors of the natural mind. In the universal sense “cities” signify the doctrinal things of the church; but in an individual sense they signify the interiors of man where doctrinal things are, or rather where are truths conjoined with good. That the truths and goods in man form… Read more »

AC 5302 for man is man from his mind; for the mind itself constitutes the man, and such as the mind is, such is the man. By the “mind” is meant man’s intellect and will, and consequently his veriest life.   CL 294 [5] Every chaste wife UXOR loves her husband MARITUM, even if he is unchaste; but because wisdom alone is recipient of her love, therefore the wife UXOR uses every effort to turn his insanity into wisdom, that is, that he may feel desire for no other woman(THIS IS ADDED IN) than herself. When the Word as the wife, as wisdom in life, is revealed it can feel like these things were concealed before and now they arent… now they are revealed and known…. ive tried really hard in this cycle to make a focused effort to try to be very clear about what it is i am seeking or asking or hoping to hear from the Word ….its actually not easy to do …. its not something that i do easily .. i really have to think about it…. like think about how to be more direct or succinct in what im… Read more »

Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me

Observations: A number of ideas were noted; *Self discipline is needed against inherent loves(cupidities)that work against seeing and freeing. “Good” for you foods/truths aren’t nearly as appealing as not “so good” which are very much tied into loves (self and world) and not easily stepped away from. Many and varied excuses put up by devil’s crew and can be extremely subtle and harmless (Ha!HA!) What can seem harmless even though enticing action from evil or falsity can quickly become addictive and destructive. Needs to be recognised, named and the Lord’s help asked for to shun it. *Knowledges (truths) needed(taken in)… Read more »

5300 Against the seven years of famine. That this signifies a lack of truth when there is a hunger or a need for them.

The task is to meditate each day on the experience of emptiness or of states when there is no truth (as in the 7 days of creation when the earth was without form and void). To pray for the light of truths that will nourish me and will be of use.

The Lord is calling me to focus on Spiritual nourishment. The proprium wants to store up spiritual junk food. There is a vast gulf between the two. This was a session which saw sneaky coniving attacks on things that I dearly love. The same hoards of hellish ideas tried their same tricks at this time last year. The stretch between Thanksgiving and Christmas has always been a special place, which in days gone by was filled with glorious music, singing, family, church and joy. It was cold outside, and warm inside. It has always been a time of spiritual nourishment,… Read more »

Observation: There is only One Life.  I have spent the session struggling with the question – What is truth? And then, how can I sense good, and live from it consciously each day? And it’s been great! Central to it is 5293 …”That which is conducive to use is to know what is good and true; that which is of use is to will and do what is good and true”, because to live them I must know them, and I can only be of use if coming from a place where good and truth are internally understood, loved, and lived.  I am learning that there are… Read more »
